DESCRIPTION: The Critical Raw Materials (CRM) Act and other EU policies aim to address the challenges faced by the extractive and processing industries. These policies focus on improving access to raw materials, reducing EU dependency, increasing circularity, promoting recycling, and ensuring sustainability, competitiveness, and efficiency. The EU-funded BLOOM project will develop advanced extraction and processing technologies to exploit primary CRM, in collaboration with Ukraine and Canada. The project seeks to strengthen the EU’s supply chains by enhancing extraction and processing efficiency through a smart analysis system, reducing costs, increasing financial viability, and making low-grade deposits profitable. The consortium includes 15 partners from four European countries, along with partners from Ukraine, Canada, and Brazil.

HOLOSS ROLE:

A Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) framework for project monitoring is developed and implemented by HOLOSS to track sustainability performance, economic feasibility, and social impact over time.

Environmental impacts of critical raw material extraction are assessed through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), identifying sustainability improvements under HOLOSS leadership.

Economic viability of extraction and supply chain processes is evaluated using Life Cycle Costing (LCC) methodologies, ensuring financial optimisation by HOLOSS.

Social impacts of raw material extraction and processing are measured through Social Life Cycle Assessment (s-LCA), reinforcing sustainability integration with HOLOSS expertise.

Sustainability performance of BLOOM’s processes is quantified using the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology, ensuring compliance with EU environmental standards through HOLOSS.

Gender balance and inclusivity strategies are integrated into BLOOM by HOLOSS to ensure equitable participation and representation across all project activities.
