New ground-breaking projects
HOLOSS was granted the prestigious honour of being awarded not one, but two new sought-after Horizon Europe projects centred around the plastic industry. This remarkable achievement, accomplished in July 2023, serves as a testament to the exceptional work and dedication exhibited by HOLOSS in their respective fields. With these new projects, HOLOSS is poised to further solidify its position as a leading force in the sphere of research and innovation. Horizon Europe, the European Union’s primary funding initiative for research and innovation, boasts an impressive budget of €95.5 billion.
Both ground-breaking projects will be integral components of the HOLOSS strategy aimed at revolutionising the chemical industry by shifting its focus towards the creation of safe and sustainable chemicals and materials. The successful execution of these projects is expected to play an essential role in realising the objectives outlined by the European Commission. These objectives include the establishment of a safe and sustainable economy that prioritises human and environmental health. Furthermore, they anticipated making a substantial impact on attaining the Sustainable Development Goals set for 2030 and meeting the targets outlined in the Paris Agreement.
HOLOSS Researchers lead the development of integrated approaches for the assessment of health and environmental impacts together with the social and economic sustainability aspects
In the first half of 2023, HOLOSS’s researchers have been hard at work gathering the most up-to-date state of the art on advances in integrated approaches for the assessment of health and environmental impacts, together with the social and economic sustainability aspects. This comprehensive knowledge will serve as valuable input for all of HOLOSS’s ongoing research. In light of its significant contributions, it has emerged as a pivotal player in advancing the Safe and Sustainable by Design Framework, spearheading crucial initiatives within the field..
HOLOSS had the opportunity to participate in the CBE JU Info Day held at ALGATEC Eco Business Park in Portugal
The event focused on the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Call for Project Proposals 2023, featuring a series of presentations, among them Virginia Puzzolo, the Head of Programme at CBE JU. The day came to a close with a captivating panel discussion centred around the advantages of collaborative partnerships in CBE for stakeholders in Portugal.
Safe and Sustainable by Design working group (SSbD-HOLOSS)
HOLOSS has created the industrial Safe and Sustainable by Design working group (SSbD-HOLOSS). Be part of this innovative and recommended European Commission approach to drive innovation towards the green industrial transition and accelerate the reduction of negative impacts on human health and the environment.
Join this group by sending your proposal interest to holoss@holoss.com.
Through this group, HOLOSS aims to bring together the industrial community interested in applying the SSbD framework to its chemicals or materials throughout their life cycles (from resource extraction to end-of-life management).
What are the potential benefits for companies of ‘Safe and Sustainable by Design’?
- Working in a socially responsible manner and anticipating regulation matters makes companies future-proof.
- Companies have a good reputation and are appealing to partners, investors, employees, and consumers.
- SSbD encourages companies to innovate, which provides them with a competitive advantage.
- Companies discover potential safety risks early, enabling them to adjust their innovation process.
- Companies reduce the risk of becoming liable in the future for harm to human health and the environment.
- Value chain partners develop a common language and work method that facilitate cooperation
HOLOSS participated in the summer school of the European Commission Representation in Portugal (Summer CEmp 2023).
Last week, HOLOSS attended the Summer CEmp held in Ponte da Barca, an annual event that mobilises young minds to debate the current state and future of the European Union, comprising several thematic areas. We were invited to present not one but multiple of our pioneering Horizon Europe projects (including SUNSON, PROPLANET, ONE4ALL, and NOVAFOODIES) in the session “what impact?”. These projects were featured, and we delved into their profound implications from scientific, political, economic, and social perspectives.
